Alexander Wright launched the African Heritage Food Co-Op to combat hunger in WNY. It’s motto is, “Anything less than ownership is unacceptable.”

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Alexander Wright doesn’t want to give hand outs. He wants people to own and control something sustainable in their community and he says it all begins with food. His goal is to empower people to own a share of their own market and buy healthy affordable food themselves.

“I want folks to not have to have to worry about, ‘Do I have to eat today or do I have pay my light bill?,'” he said.

Twenty years ago, as farmed salmon and shrimp started spreading in supermarket freezers, came an influential scientific paper that warned of an environmental mess: Fish farms were gobbling up wild fish stocks, spreading disease and causing marine pollution.

This week, some of the same scientists who published that report issued a new paper concluding that fish farming, in many parts of the world, at least, is a whole lot better. Known for its timely deliveries, the U.S. Postal Service has at long last dedicated a series of stamps dedicated to the magic elixir that has helped fuel the modern-day specialty coffee industry in the United States: espresso drinks.

The agency released the collection of 55-cent postage stamps in 20-stamp booklets last week. Each booklet contains four different stamps celebrating four popular espresso-based drinks: straight espresso, cappuccino, caffe latte and caffe mocha.
