Louise Davies has been a vegetarian for 45 years, but an incident at McDonald’s left her feeling “betrayed.”
Davies went through the drive-thru with her 11-year-old daughter and ordered a Veggie Deluxe burger. Though, she soon realized the burger contained an actual chicken fillet. According to Gloucestershire Live, she immediately vomited and couldn’t eat for another 12 hours due to feeling unwell.
“I immediately was sick because I haven’t eaten meat in over 40 years. The texture and everything…I just had to rush to the toilet,” Davies said, according to Gloucestershire Live. “That’s the effect meat will have on me. Even the smell of it, I don’t like.”
Davies did not actually eat the chicken fillet. She just recognized the taste, which she finds distasteful.
“I didn’t actually eat it, I bit into it and straight away I vomited. I spat it out and threw up,” she added. “I didn’t think to look in it, I just thought it was a veggie burger.”
“It just reminded me of being a child in my grandma’s kitchen, just the taste of it. It made me feel sick even then,” she continued.
Davies couldn’t eat until the following morning. She was finally able to consume a fruit-based smoothie. Nevertheless, she feels betrayed by the global fast-food chain.
“I now can’t trust anything from McDonald’s to be vegetarian,” Davies said. “It’s not the best place to get vegetarian food to be honest if they’re that careless. I feel upset and a bit betrayed.”
