Sweetgreen CEO Deletes Post Suggesting Healthy Foods Could Prevent COVID After Backlash

Amid online backlash, Sweetgreen CEO Jonathan Neman has deleted his post suggesting that healthier food could save Americans from what he believes to be the “underlying problem” of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a Tuesday LinkedIn post, Neman shared his thoughts on the nation’s current coronavirus crisis and called for “health mandates”—which he likened to vaccine and face mask requirements implemented in cities and businesses across the country.

“78% of hospitalizations due to COVID are Obese and Overweight people,” Neman wrote. “Is there an underlying problem that perhaps we have not given enough attention to? Is there another way to

Local groups working to increase access to healthy foods

TOPEKA (KSNT) — Some local groups are working to increase access to healthy foods in Shawnee County and understand the problems causing food insecurities.

G’Tobia Washington is the Pathways Grant Coordinator for the United Way of Greater Topeka.

She is working to change low-access food zones through the use of a $500,000 Blue Cross Blue Shield Pathways to a Healthy Kansas grant that was awarded last July and extends over a four-year period.

“We really don’t have a lot of places where people can get fresh produce,” Washington said.

She described these areas as “food deserts,” or areas where people

However, nutrition and healthy eating are not a one-size-fits-all dietary prescription. Traditional meals and food culture deserve a seat at the table too.

In this article, I’ll explain why cultural foods are integral to healthy eating.
