Something’s been cooking upstairs from The Grateful Gourmet kitchen supply store among the quaint rows of historic buildings in the center of Galena, Illinois.

Under the name Galena Roasters, Earl Thompson has been overseeing a pair of Mill City Roasters on the third floor above his wife’s kitchen store since 2018. Last month, the roasting company opened its first retail cafe, joining the streetscape just down the block.

A paradise of art deco design and freshly roasted coffee awaits the public in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida, at Paradeco Coffee Roasters. The roastery cafe was transformed from vision into reality by Paradeco Founders Thomas Maloney and Sonya Sarkar over the course of more than a year.

The roughly 1,700-square-foot shop opened late last month with a Bellwether machine turning out fresh roasts, top-shelf brewing and espresso equipment behind the bar, art deco-inspired curves and bedazzling touches aplenty.

Corter Coffee Roasters has been slowly taking over the Inertia Coffee shop location in Colorado Springs, Colorado, after the latter business had essentially run its course.

Pittsburgh-based roaster and retailer Commonplace Coffee has organized a group of eight Pennsylvania roasters to participate in a fundraiser called Be The Bridge, offering eight distinct commercial roasts of a single high-quality green coffee.

A portion of proceeds from the sale of each bag sold is being donated towards efforts to address food insecurity in the Keystone State.
