Simple Butterscotch Sauce Recipe

Ingredients

  • ½ cup (1 stick) of unsalted butter
  • 1 cup of packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 1 tsp of pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Melt the butter over medium heat in a medium-sized saucepan. Make sure to stir occasionally to prevent burning.
  • Once the butter has melted, add the brown sugar to the saucepan. Stir until the sugar has completely dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
  •  Gradually pour in the heavy cream while continuing to stir. Be careful as the mixture may bubble and splatter.
  • Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 5 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent the sauce from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. The aroma of the vanilla will enhance the overall taste of the butterscotch sauce.
  • Allow the sauce to cool for a few minutes before serving. It will thicken slightly as it cools.
