Ingredients

  • 2  large jalapenos
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 cup of buttermilk
  • 1 cup  of flour
  • 1 tsp  of paprika
  • 1 tsp of garlic powder
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • ½ tsp of black pepper
  • Oil

Instructions

  • Start by slicing the jalapenos and onion into thin strips. Be sure to remove the seeds from the jalapenos if you want to reduce the heat.
  • In a bowl, combine the buttermilk, flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until you have a smooth batter.
  • Dip the jalapeno and onion strips into the batter, making sure they are fully coated.
  • Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Carefully drop the battered strips into the hot oil. Fry them until they are golden brown and crispy. This should take about 3-5 minutes.
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove the Texas Toothpicks from the oil. Drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  • Serve your Texas Toothpicks hot with your favourite dipping sauce.
