Ingredients
2 large jalapenos
1 large onion
1 cup of buttermilk
1 cup of flour
1 teaspoon of paprika
1 teaspoon of garlic powder
1 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of black pepper

Instructions
Start by slicing the jalapenos and onion into thin strips. Be sure to remove the seeds from the jalapenos if you want to reduce the heat.
In a bowl, combine the buttermilk, flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until you have a smooth batter.
Dip the jalapeno and onion strips into the batter, making sure they are fully coated.
Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Carefully drop the battered strips into the hot oil. Fry them until they are golden brown and crispy. This should take about 3-5 minutes.
Use a slotted spoon to remove the Texas Toothpicks from the oil. Drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
